Reform, Replace or…? Assessment To Meet The Needs of Young People

The farcical handling of the BTEC, GCSE and A Level examination series in 2020 looks set to repeat itself in 2021. As questions around fairness continue to dominate the headlines and the world of EduTwitter, the very foundations of the assessment system in the UK have been rocked. With calls from a wide range of professionals for assessment reform, the NATD have organised an online conference that invites teachers and educators from a broad range of backgrounds to consider whether reform goes far enough.

While hosted by the NATD, we invite practitioners from any subject to join in the discussion.

With contributions from former Executive Headteacher Matthew Milburn, current CEO at Birmingham Education Partnership Tim Boyes, education expert Debra Kidd and founder of the Anti-Sats Campaign Jane Coles, the NATD invites teachers from every subject to join us to discuss how we might place the needs of young people back at the heart of assessment in education.

After keynote speeches, delegates will be split into breakout rooms for open discussion about the future of assessment. We hope that discussion will lead to the launch of a campaign for meaningful assessment reform and will call on subject associations, teachers, parents and young people to sign a position statement demanding change.
